As The Fixer, I’m an old hand at home renovations and repairs, helping homeowners transform their interior & exterior spaces into functional and beautiful environments.

The active and creative parts of my ADD mind (mixed with an obsession for detail) help me make short work of just about any renovation or build situation.

There isn’t much I don’t/can’t do, but there are some things I’m either not equipped or haven’t the staff for (or even want to do). That said, I can take of:

I’m a Renaissance Man, a Multipotentialite.

I’ve worked many years in the Security, Audiovisual, Communications and Smart-Home industries. My high school years spent in Automotive Mechanics & Body. While my formative years were spent building and racing pedal motor-bikes and copying almost anything out of a Popular Mechanics magazine.

A fan of all things Space, Science and decades in/with Tech, I’m nicely balanced with a love of humanity, history and Sustainability. 

So you can be absolutely certain I can mentor or direct you to create your very own project, and get it done with a minimum amount of grief, aggravation, stress and cost overruns.

Al Barnes

Owner/Operator

Founder and chief visionary, Al is the driving force behind both companies. He is passionate about helping people realize their renovation dreams - through inspired, conceptive, strategic & innovative design and extremely detailed planning.


Specific Relevant Education: 

Science, Music, Technology, 2 years Automotive Mechanics, Welding (1 year Electric Arc & Oxy/Acetelene Gas), Online Courses in Home Inspections and Consulting.

Relevant Practical Work Experience:

1 year Automotive Bodywork, 10 years (on & off) Automotive Accessories Installation (Alarms, Starters, Pro Audio, Air Horns, Fog Lights, custom Radar Detectors, Cellular Phones, Rims/Tires, etc), 25 years (on & off) Commercial/Residential/Industrial Security Systems and Locksmith Services (Electronic Systems and Physical Hardware), numerous Trades (Tarion New Home Warranty Repairs, Small Engine Mechanics, Concrete Coring/Cutting, Communications & Audiovisual Installation & Service, Tool Rental/Maintenance), and my own businesses in Building, Renovation & Consultation over the last 21 years.

At 15 years of age Al was the youngest Security Technician in Quebec (possibly Canada), working under his father who had already been in the industry for 15-20 years. Back then, security systems were all hard-wired, and required fishing wires throughout the massive, high-end homes/businesses whose owners could afford the luxury.

It took years to learn how a home was built and how to get cabling to the various locations needed - and often required the moving of large, expensive furniture, removal of trims and baseboards, drilling holes, patching and painting walls & re-gluing wallpaper. Not to mention connecting, programming and testing the devices, then educating customers on system use.

Al learned human interaction and good customer service younger than most (something in VERY short supply nowadays). He has worked for (and with) people of all age, race, gender, religion and socioeconomic status.

He has been part of installations, projects and services for Government, Police, Premiers, & RCMP. In and around Homes, Offices, Hospitals, Adult & Youth Remand Centres, Manufacturing Facilities, Banks, Furriers, Jewellers and in a plethora of other high (and low) security settings.

And during the process, has collaborated with Management, Engineers, Architects, Programmers, Designers, Photographers, FilmMakers, Builders and just about every Trade out there.

 All in all, his level of experience and knowledge is rare.
